Carry More Gear Without Losing Clearance: Class III 2" Hitch with 9" Receiver Tube

This hitch is built for everyday function and weekend trips alike. With a Class III rating, a 2" x 2" receiver opening, and a 5,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight, it’s tough enough for light trailers, cargo carriers, or multi-bike racks. The 9" long receiver tube extends accessories past the spare tire, giving you more clearance for racks and baskets. With up to 500 lbs of tongue weight (with or without weight distribution), it’s ready for solid hauling without stressing the setup.

Take On Tough Roads: Fully Welded Steel Frame and Matte Black Finish

This hitch is fully welded for strength and precision fit. The steel construction is coated with a matte black powder finish over a protective base coat to resist rust and corrosion. The rugged matte texture hides dirt, scuffs, and small dings better than a glossy finish, keeping it looking clean even after rough use. It’s made to handle road grime, rain, and whatever else the trail throws at it.

DIY-Friendly Installation: Bolt-On Mounting with Included Hardware

You don’t need specialized tools or welding gear to get this hitch on your vehicle. It bolts straight to the frame using the included hardware kit and installation instructions. The precision fit lines up with factory mounting points, saving you time in the driveway and avoiding any cutting or drilling. Once installed, you're ready to hook up a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier right away.

Simple install with a 3/4" open end wrench and a 3/4" socket. Wasn't even necessary to lower the exhaust. For the '09 I installed it on, the existing holes in the bumper were all large enough.

by:

I read the reviews paying close attention to the fact that I had a Jeep Wrangler with the tire on the rear. I chose this one because it said it would fit and allow bike racks with the tire in place. Item arrived and I easily installed it with no effort at all. Nothing had to be removed unlike the instructions. The picture below is minutes after installation. My Thule 4-bike rack would not slide into place as it was not long enough of a mount which is contrary to what the description said. I reached out to etrailer and was told that I could purchase an extender for $XX dollars more than what I bought the mount for. I contacted a local trailer supply store that had an extender for a lot less money and now it works......

by:

The order came on time. I didn’t get a chance to install it on my jeep yet, but it definitely is heavy duty.

by:

The trailer wiring was a good compliment to the trailer hitch receiver I installed. A little hard for an old guy with big hands , but the videos really helped.

by:

Installation was easy without issue, hitch appears substantially more robust than the factory one.

Great. It served its intended purpose then and still does today.

by:

Glade I chose this instead of some of the cheaper models. This is made out of thicker steel. Took a whole 5 minutes to install. Looks great.

Glad you like it, Kevin! What are you going to be using it for?

by:

Once I figured out the alignment of the bolts it was simple. The 2018 JL has two bolts and a bracket that are already there. U loosen, slide the hitch between the bracket. I reused the 2 stock bolts and used the 2 new bolts. Looks great! Total time for install about 40 mins with torque n the bolts. Havent used it yet but will let u know if there are any issues.

Some models will have existing hardware and a spacer installed in the hitch installation location. If your Jeep has these parts, you will want to remove the bolts and spacer, keeping the bolts for re-installation with the trailer hitch.

by:

Quick shipping and a breeze to install!!

by:

etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver is extremely well made and heavy duty. All the holes line up and the bolts are just the right size.
It's a great looking hitch and I would highly recommend this one for your Jeep.

@Greg That is great to hear Greg! I am glad the install went smoothly for you too. What are you using this hitch to tow?

by:

The hitch is obviously well made and looks good. Install on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler was very difficult at best. To start my Jeep has a bracket which appears to be a bumper facia stiffener which was very difficult to remove hardware to facilitate installing the hitch. The two existing bolts which screw into weld nuts were metric and the heads did not fit any of the wrenches I own. I finally was able to remove two bolts by using penetrating oil and a good crescent wrench. The hitch fit very tightly, unlike your install videos which showed the hitch just slipping on. Once I got the hitch into position using a hydraulic bottle jack the remaining bolt installation went together without a "hitch". Note that I did not need to lower my exhaust.

by:

Installation was not nearly as easy and straightforward as I had expected. The 4 bolts only came with 3 washers. Luckily I had another though that worked. The muffler had to be disconnected to make room for the bolts and even then I had to use a hydraulic jack to lift and position the hitch to be able to get all 4 bolts through the holes. What I figured might take an hour or so to install ended up taking about 6 hours along with a lot of ingenuity and persistence.

by:

Much harder to install than you would expect. On the JL the muffler is in the way. You either must drill out the holes in frame or remove the rear bumper and put the bolts in reverse from the instructions.

by:

Fit perfect. The installation was easy. Looks good

by:

Heavy duty well made

by:

I kept saying it was so heavy but it was my injured shoulder “talking”. It was installed without removing the muffler… My friend just didn’t want to do that; and he had the tools and experience to accomplish the task.!! Thank you again.!!

I needed a hitch receiver that would fit my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and extend far enough that I could use by Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform bike rack and clear the spare tire. This hitch worked perfectly and was an easy install.

Exactly what I needed. I have used on many times and could not be more pleased with the hitch

by:

The hitch is heavy duty and was easy to install.

by:

Reciever hitch looked heavy duty and very well built. Was super easy to install

by:

Excellent product, poor installation instructions. I have included the photo of the part that had to be removed before I could install the hitch - despite emailing prior to purchase to ensure an exact fit, there was no instruction to remove that part. Once that part was removed, fit was perfect. No need to temporarily remove exhaust, despite recommendation in directions. The vehicle is brand new, Rubicon 4xe. I will only use the hitch for a bike or luggage carrier, but it is heavy duty and would handle more that the Jeeps towing capacity

I researched and found that there is install note that needs to be added to the manual. Some models may have existing bolts attaching a plate with weldnuts on it. The hitch will need to be slid inbetween the bracket and the mounting tube witht he factory hardware reinstalled, securing the hitch.

Product is working great - heavy duty enough to tow a 3,500 pound little camper. Towing limitation is the Jeep, not the hitch!

by:

Quality product. Fit on Jeep Wrangler. Arrived on time. Simple installation.

by:

It was an easy install. I didn’t have a gasoline tank issue. All the bolts fit with out filing or drilling. The bolts required open and closed in wrenches to tighten. Easy install. 30 minutes or so.

by:

It was necessary to drop the muffler. Also the factory bolts, that had to be removed, were so tight that I had to use a 1/2" impact with over 2' of extensions. The hitch is very heavy, which is good !

by:

Installed on 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4DR. Install took under 15 minutes by myself. On our Jeep there was nothing to remove, and there was plenty of clearance around the muffler, so it did not have to be lowered. Simply hold it up, put the bolts in, and tighten it up. Flat black paint blends nice with matte bumper.

by:

I watched your install video and then installed the hitch. It was pretty much just like the video. All the bolts lined up perfect! Didn’t even need to take little plate off, just pushed it back a little and slid the hitch in place. Easy -Peasy.

That’s why I bought the E-trailer hitch, I wanted it to fit.

A year later and I’m very pleased with how the paint still looks brand new.

by:

Easy install! My Jeep has the "upgraded" Mopar bumper with the spacer plate that needs to be removed when installing the hitch. It came right out and the hitch bracket takes its place. The inner steel bumper bar on my Jeep is threaded so I reused the factory bolts instead of the included ones. One concern I had was loosing some ground clearance with having a hitch installed, but it doesn't really hang down below the factory tow hook.

I use a hitch bike rack and may use a hitch mount basket to for more carrying capacity since two door Jeep. This is the 2nd hitch I installed on a vehicle from etrailer and the quality is great.

  • Do I Need a Bike Frame Adapter Bar when Using the RV Rider with Step-Thru Electric Bikes?
I have a great solution for you. Even though the independently-adjusting cradles on the Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR eliminate the need of a bike frame adapter bar, the OnRamp is not safe to use on the back of a flat-towed vehicle. I I confirmed with the engineers at Yakima that the OnRamp cannot withstand the extra torque/forces exerted on the rack during transport on your 2019 Jeep Wrangler. Even if the OnRamp was approved, the 5-inch distance between the center of the pinhole and the closest...

If you plan to use the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier and Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y44ZR on your 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, you definitely need a hitch extender. This is because the distance from the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest part of the carrier is only 4-1/4" long. With that being said, the only compatible extender to use with the EXO is the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension - 2" Hitches - 7-1/4" Long # Y69VR. You are not able to use...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2025 Jeep Wrangler
Hey Jimmy, My go-to hitch recommendation is the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98856 because it has a matte black finish which will keep the hitch in better shape longer than the classic glossy black finish we see with the other hitch fits. The durability and sleek look of the hitch is the perfect combination for an off-road vehicle like a Wrangler.
